Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs)

The summer 2021 exam series could not take place because of the COVID-19 pandemic. All Saints’ Roman Catholic High School, A Voluntary Academy has submitted subject grades to the relevant awarding bodies in accordance with Ofqual and JCQ guidance, and in line with the awarding body instructions.

Ofqual have decided that students will receive their qualifications based on Teacher Assessed Grades (TAG’s) which are based on the content they have been taught.

Arrangements for Results Day (Thursday 12th August 2021)

GCSE results will be released electronically via the pupil’s All Saints’ email address no earlier than 8:30am. Results will also be posted later on in the day to the addresses we hold on our system. This process will apply to both year 10 and 11 pupils who are expecting results.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your results, you can come into school to speak to Mr Mayes from 10:00am onwards.

If you have an enquiry, please telephone the school on 01706 213693. Please ring on the day between 10.00am and 3.00pm, or alternatively you can send an email to examsofficer@allsaintshigh.lancs.sch.uk for the attention of Mr Pollard.

Appeals

What is the Appeals Process?

There are two main stages to the appeals process this year, but pupils cannot submit appeals directly to exam boards. In the first instance pupils must contact their centre.

What and how you can Appeal?

The appeals process is split into two stages.

Stage One - Centre Review

Any student may submit a request for a centre review on the grounds that the centre has:

  • failed to follow its procedures properly or consistently in arriving at that result or
  • made an administrative error in relation to the result.

Process – In order to make an appeal at Stage One please complete the attached form ‘Appendix B – Optional Student Request Form for Centre Reviews and Appeals to Awarding Organisations’, Section A. Student request on page 2. Before completing, please make sure you have read and fully understand the ‘Important information for students’ on page 1.

Please send this appeal request to: examsofficer@allsaintshigh.lancs.sch.uk for the attention of Mr Pollard.

Deadlines

The window for pupils to request a Stage One – Centre Review is from result day to Friday 3rd September 2021.

The centre will then investigate the appeal and complete Section B. Centre review outcome on page 3 to report our findings to pupils. The centre will aim to conduct centre reviews from results day to Friday 10th September 2021.

Stage Two – Appeal to Awarding Organisation

Any student, who considers that there has been a procedural error, an administrative error or that their grade reflects an unreasonable exercise of academic judgement (either because of the way that the grade has been determined and/or the selection of the evidence), may submit a request for an awarding organisation appeal after they have received the outcome of their centre review.

Process – In order to make an appeal at Stage Two please complete the attached form ‘Appendix B – Optional Student Request Form for Centre Reviews and Appeals to Awarding Organisations’, appeal to awarding organisation on pages 4 and 5 and send back to the centre.

Please send this appeal request to: examsofficer@allsaintshigh.lancs.sch.uk for the attention of Mr Pollard.

Deadlines

The window for pupils to request a Stage Two – Appeal to Awarding Organisation is from result day to Friday 17th September 2021.

The centre will then be able to send this appeal request to exam boards for them to investigate.

Exam Procedures Review Service

Following the conclusion of the awarding organisation's appeal process, a student who remains concerned their grade was incorrect may be able to apply for a procedural review to the Exam Procedures Review Service (EPRS) from the relevant regulator. There are EPRS processes for Ofqual (England). The regulators will provide further details about the EPRS processes for summer 2021 before results days this summer.

Autumn 2021 Exam Series

Background

Awarding bodies will offer the full suite of GCSE’s this autumn. This exam series is an opportunity for pupils who would like to improve their grade, to sit their exams.

Assessments

Assessment will be by examination only; there will be no non-exam assessment, with the exception of Art and Design qualifications, where grades will be determined by students’ performance in a task set and marked by the exam board. Pupils can choose to take as many subjects as you want but if you want to take a particular subject, you will need to take all exam papers in that subject. If you achieve a different grade from the grade you received this summer, you will be able to use the highest grade.
